Boys’ tennis tops Lynbrook 5-2 in 3rd league match

The Paly boys’ tennis team clinched a victory against Lynbrook with a team score of 5-2. Coming out victorious in all of their pair matches and two of their four singles. Leaving them 2-1 in league.

“Our doubles are super strong and have been able to pull through matches with those,” said Jack Paladin (‘14) about the doubles performances in the matches.

Paladin and his doubles partner, Adi Mahadevan (‘14), won their match of the day, by winning their first set 6-3 and the second 6-0.

Along with Paladin and Mahadevan, doubles pair Kevin Huang (‘15) and Gabriel Mechali (‘14) won their match in two sets. Winning both sets with a score of 6-4.

Finally, doubles duo Raymond Li (‘14) and Niall Patrick (‘14) came out victorious in their match winning their first set 6-3 and their second 7-5.

“Our singles are playing really well and they have had some tough matches and some tough competition,” said Paladin of the singles players on the team.

Both Blake Smith (‘14) and Ronak Baldua (‘16) lost their matches. Smith losing both of his sets 6-0 and Baldua losing his first set 6-3 and his second 6-4.

Two of the four singles competitors did come out victorious. Both Austin Leung (‘14) and Shiv Matta (‘16) beat their Lynbrook opponents. Matta winning both his sets 6-2, and Leung winning both 7-6.

“We’ve done a lot better this year winning close matches then we did last year,” said Mahadevan of the teams performance, especially Leung’s in his match.

The Vikings look forward to improving their skills in practicing before they face Sacred Heart Prep on Wednesday.
