In a hard fought contest, the Lady Vikes were unable to pull out the victory losing 4-3.

The Titans took an early lead after the first inning after scoring the first run of the game. Both the Vikings and the Titans were unable to score in a fast second inning. The top of the third inning started out with an impressive play made from senior caption Hannah Bundy. After Julia Saul (’14) walked the second hitter for the Titans, the Vikings managed to get the last two outs. The Vikings were unable to score during the bottom of the third inning after Casey Glassford (’15) got out after attempting to run home.

The Vikings picked up their momentum in the bottom of the fourth after the Titans were unable to score. Bundy hit a single followed by a double by Maddie Martinson (’16).  Maddy Jones (’14) stepped in a Martinson’s pinch runner, and following a hit by Shannon Fee (’14), both Bundy and Jones were able to run home for the Vikings.

The top of the fifth ended with no runs for the Titans. The Vikings’ momentum continued well into the bottom of the fifth after Kabria Dame (’15) and Tori Destefano (’14) both scored runs. The Titans began to come back during the sixth and scored three more runs which allowed them to take a 4-3 lead over the Vikings heading into the seventh inning. Both teams were unsuccessful in scoring in the seventh inning, leading the Titans to take a 4-3 victory over the Vikings.

Dame thought her team fought hard against the Titans but admits there that there are areas where the team can improve.

“We started off a little slow in the first few innings but we definitely picked it up later on. The sixth inning is what really cost us the game,” Dame said. “We needed to hit more. We let balls go that we should have dominated on”.

Mike Dutto, the assistant coach, agrees with Dame in that the team started off with a slow start but picked it up as the game continued.

“They started out slow. You know we had a couple of mistakes early on, but they battled back”

The Vikings will play next on Apr. 4th in Half Moon Bay.
